.WMV to Quicktime
I have a client who has some pretty bad video on a .wmv file. They want to edit this. I have Discreet Cleaner 6 and that should theoritically be able to convert this WMV to a quicktime file that I can then “EDIT” in FInal cut. However I haven’t found the right combination inside Cleaner to make that conversion take place. Do any of you have other ideas about how to do that?

This is pretty simple. Just download the Flip4Mac Player Pro component for QT:
https://www.flip4mac.com/wmv_playerpro.htm
Once you have installed this, you will then be able to open the WMVs in QT Pro and can choose to Export to another format just like you would any other QT file. -
OK I purchased the program you suggested adn it says that the WMV file could not be opened. WHen I open it with Windows Media Player it plays fine. Ideas?

When you open it in Windows Media Player, and then hit apple+i on the keyboard, what codec(s) does it say it is using? It is possible your movies are using a very old codec that isn’t supported by F4M. I would also check the F4M forums or email their support to see what they say.
If you can report what codec your movie is using (or better yet, upload a small sample file), then I can help you find something else that may help you.

The file says bit rate: 559Kbps
Media Type: Video
Audio COdec: Windows Media Audio 9.1 64 kbps, 44.1khz Stereo 1-pass CBR

That should work. Silly question, but have you restarted your Mac since the Flip4mac install?

Yep, that codec shouldn’t be a problem (I just tested a few WMV8/WMA9 videos on my MBP to be sure and they played fine). I have the F4M Studio version installed on my machine, but the version you bought should work as well with this format. Like Danny says, try restarting. If that doesn’t work, then would suggest using either an application called VisualHub ( https://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/tryit.php ) if your frame rate is standard 29.97 or 25fps and convert it to DV. If not, then you will need something more featured, such as Episode ( https://www.flip4mac.com/episode.htm ). As always, I would recommend you try the demo before purchasing these products to ensure compatibility.
