Actually MPEG-4 (Pt 2) is ideally suited to streaming, and has been for some time.

Much depends on the network you want to deliver over.
GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA etc etc.
Ultimately you need the services of a broadcaster, who that is will depend on where you are in the world, and what kind of broadcaster will depend on what type of content you want to deliver.

No it doesn’t. If the client wants MPEG then the client should get MPEG, not just a .Mov or whatever.
It should be either MPEG-1 or MPEG-4, both are totally compatible with Quicktime, MPEG-4 will give you higher quality for a given datarate than MPEG-1, but MPEG-1 will play well on computers that are too old and underpowered for MPEG-4.

You are interested in MPEG-1 and MPEG-4 part 2 and part 10, part 10 is also called H.264.

For FCP – Best to export a non-self contained clip (in other words a ‘reference’ clip) using the exact same settings as the sequence you are exporting from.
That way you’ll save disk space, and you’ll not be degrading the quality at all, nor will you be converting it to another format, unnecessarily.
Using ‘None’ exports an uncompressed clip, which is pointless most of the time.
I’m not sure if AE supports export by reference……?

My only advice is to not use cleaner, it is so out of date. Think about getting another application like Episode or Squeeze.

Not sure what sort of audience you are aiming at but you could start with say the ‘HD_720p’ preset under the MPEG-4 (.mp4) Format settings.
You have a choice of CODEC, Apple AVC or Sorenson AVC Pro
There’s nothing specific relating to Flash / H.264, simply put, the new Flash player will playback H.264 video. You do not need to encode H.264 files ‘into Flash’, as it were.

Can you describe the noise in a bit more detail – is it like snow, blocks, fizzing, or are you referring to actual noise on the audio tracks?

Try modifying the preset and reducing the ‘Motion Estimation’ from ‘Best’ to ‘Better’ or less.
Also, going for one pass VBR over two pass VBR will roughly half the time taken if you are prepared to take another hit on quality.

Premiere Pro 2.0 works with HDV natively, as such you ‘should’ be able to import the HDV.mpeg files directly if they were supplied to on a disc for example.
Not that I’ve ever tried it!
