And in the end, thats all that matters.
I’ve setup the DA-98 with house composite black as a reference source and I’m capturing wild. I’ll give an update when it’s all finished.
    Thanks!

The client tells me the tapes were recorded at 29.27 Drop Frame.

[Scott Cumbo] “so the assitant just loads the da-88/98 without timecode and I end up syncing it back up in the Avid. “

Is that the best way to avoid the drift?

Thanks, I’ll give it a try when I’m done loading some other tapes. But I know for a fact that I’ve done this before on a similar project just a few weeks ago.
The most annoying part is that you can’t tell what frame rate the DA-88 was recorded at. Whatever you set the deck (30, 24, etc) is how it counts.

Hey Mike. Old post, I know… but I wanted to ask you to shed some light on the subject.

I plan to do some archiving using the media tool (show master clips, drag to bin, consolidate, etc.), but my question is, what happens if I need to recall this project? Will the databases point to the drive I consolidated to? Or will I have to relink to it?
I’ve seen lots of posts and tutorials on archiving but can’t find much info on recalling the media.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Talked to Avid: They only support 8 channels, even on local storage (we have a video raid st).
Bummer. Looks like its multiple passes for me.
    Anyone have a better solution?

    Settings -> Media Creation
On the first tap, there is a check box that says “Filter based on resolution”
Not sure why, but this box being checked (or unchecked) occasionally makes my RAIDs invisible to avid.

I’m unfamiliar with this camera, but a few months ago I got the same error with a Canon XH G1 and Media Composer 2.2.15. Turns out the footage was accidentally shot in 24p mode which is not supported by Avid. Hope this sheds some light on the issue.

Check menu option 806 for audio emphasis. I believe it should be set to OFF when using digital audio (aes or sdi) and ON for analog audio. This is probably only a piece of the puzzle. I don’t use blackmagic or fcp so someone else will have to chime in.
    Good Luck,

One thing I do is “quarantine” the media. When you’re done with a project, simply change the name of the folders.
    Example:
“Avid MediaFiles” -change to- “ep_212_Avid MediaFiles”
“OMFI MediaFiles” -change to- “ep_212_OMFI MediaFiles”
What this does is it forces the next project to recreate the original folders (avid mediafiles and omfi mediafiles) and store the media there. It will still have to be at the root of the drive, but this method makes it much more organized. When you want to go back to an old project, just rename the folder back to it’s original name.
