I’d recommend having a look at the “Secret” preferences before you render.
Hold down the Shift key, then go to Edit > Preferences > General. Once in Preferences, hit the Previous button and you’ll find the Secret area.
Turn on Disable Layer Cache, and set the Purge to 30 frames. This will increase the chances of your render completing, but it will take a little longer to do it. A fair trade I think. :o)
Remember to reset these settings after you’re finished.

Animation is a Quicktime codec. It’s an RGB codec that’s lossless at 100% quality setting, which is why it’s recommended as an intermediary codec.

It looks like what Steve did was to keyframe the main movements of the camera, then add a simple Wiggle expression to the position at the end, to give it a more “handheld” feel.
You might find it easier to parent the camera to a Null object layer, and move that null. Then add wiggle(.3,50) to the null’s position.

Hi,
Can you give a bit more information on your problem. It’s very vague.
How are you scrolling? What do you mean it’s not running smoothly? Not when you render (if so, what are your project settings, codec etc.)? Not on a broadcast monitor? More info definitely needed :o)

Precomposing has a number of different functions. A couple of instances to use precomps would be:
i) Some filters use another layer as a reference, for example Displacement Map. These effects look at the reference layer before any effects/transformations have been applied.
If you wanted to take advantage of those things, maybe to add a blur, you would have to precompose the layer first. By precomposing, the reference layer is now affected by those transformations/effects within the precomp. That’s to say, not effects placed on the precomp itself, but to the layers inside the precomp.
ii) Make working with a group of layers more manageable, for instance applying an effect to a number of layers, or manipulating a group of 3D layers as one 3D object.

As Steve says, check the PAR correction on the viewer. If it still looks odd, check you’ve got the right PAR in the footage itself.
Right-click on your footage in the Project window and check Interpret Footage > Main.

It sounds like you’ve got the right settings to go out from After Effects.
Once you have the clip in Vegas, check out its Clip Properties setting and change the Pixel Aspect Ratio there to match the PAL Widescreen.
It’s been a looong while since I dabbled with Vegas, so you may have to drop the clip back on the timeline again to see the change.

Yes, you can do this easily.
If you’re in the Pen tool, simply shift-drag a marquee around the points you wish to select.
Select the spline first so you can see the spline points before you start the drag, or it won’t select anything. :o)

I’ll dive in here. I don’t think there’s going to be many options here.
EDLs will work, but as you have found, EDLs require that you reacquire the media.
Installing Parallels won’t work here as iFinish requires the old Media 100 hardware to be installed. It won’t work software-only.
Did you try opening the Programs or the Project? I hazily recall a time in the dim distant past when iFinish & Media 100 programs could be opened by the sister system. I think that stopped many years.
If you have access to the original tapes then I would go the EDL. Though actually I would try to keep an iFinish system around if the work is mission critical. You can probably find one pretty cheaply second hand.
