The black bars on the side suggest that you are setting the project to widescreen but not the clip itself. I’m not too huge on my vegas, but see if there is a clip properties you can adjust. Just because the file is shot widescreen, doesn’t mean the app always knows that automatically… look for pixel aspect ratio or 16:9 etc.

i know how to do that in vegas but its not correcting the ratio its just stretching the video to fill the black bars and the video looks terrible…im pretty sure im not rendering the video right from after effects…this is vegas cant correct the video

    any help?

I wish I were more fluent in Vegas to give you the proper answer, but I often run into a similar problem with Final Cut Pro. After some digging, I found there was an aspect setting in the clip bin properties that allowed me to correct it properly (I believe it was actually a response to a post on the forums here). That’s why I’m suggesting you find the similar setting in Vegas.

The other (probably improper) way I used to get around it before that was by opening the clip in Quicktime, pressing command-J (CTRL-J in windows I guess) and going to the visual settings tab of the video track and manually setting the scaled size to 854×480 and resaving. This wasn’t a flawless solution but it got me some headway at least…

Not suprisingly, when using AE rendered files in Premiere it recognizes the aspect perfectly.

If you do a screengrab of your output module, it might help diagnose the problem.

It sounds like you’ve got the right settings to go out from After Effects.

Once you have the clip in Vegas, check out its Clip Properties setting and change the Pixel Aspect Ratio there to match the PAL Widescreen.

It’s been a looong while since I dabbled with Vegas, so you may have to drop the clip back on the timeline again to see the change.

    Good luck,
    Ben
