Good point. Aren’t XDCAM files MXF? I guess I was under the impression that they were one and the same once they are on the HD. Also the Sony import utility could play them flawlessly.

My workaround was to open the files in Soundtrack save to AIFF and import to FCP and synch up. No idea why that happened to work. Vodoo stuff–wave a dead chicken 3 times over the MAC…

Managed to get the audio back by opening the files in Soundtrack and then saving the audio to AIFF and reimporting them into FCP. Crazy… I will try the preference file replacement too.

Tried that but the waveforms are just like building blocks and all that comes out is digital hiss.

Yeah I can hear it clear as a bell listening to the files play with the Sony utility, but it imports into FC so distorted that you can’t hear the words at all. I tried it on a new project with the same results.

Yes thank you so much–looks like they were Nano/XDCAM files. The next thing for me to figure out is why the video imported beautifully but the audio is pegged and unusable, while the XDCAM transfer plays them clean and proper levels. Any suggestions? And thanks guys, it was good to know you were out there when I was panicking yesterday.

I suspect that they might have been shot with a camera output to a video recorder??? And I was hoping that because the file structure was similar to P2, I could ingest through Log & Transfer, but no luck. I’ll start looking for a utility to convert them to QT.

Lot of talk about Cocktails and beer… Funny, I feel thirsty all of a sudden. Could you be more specific in your recommendations?

Can’t you just export an h264 file from Compressor and then change the extension to .flv? ‘Think this will only play on newer versions of Flash, but depending on your client’s needs it may work with the software you’ve got..
