I agree and can relate to the time and pain it takes to develop that ‘Secret Sauce.’ I am still mixing the ingredients… trying to find that perfect combination of spices and herbs (as others refer to it).

What I would love to see however is some kind of visual forum where colorists are able to share their stories, ideas and work. It would never be a forum to give away the ‘special sauce,’ but it would be a place for creative discussion, ideas and inspiration.

DP’s, musicians, photographers and other creatives consistantly share ideas and what inspires them (eg – American Cinematographer). Why not colorists?

BTW – Episode 1 of a new Warner Series (Mortal Kombat) was timed today on my DaVinci Resolve system (2009 MacPro). Exciting stuff!!!

An iPad app for clients, especially commercial clients would be amazing!!!

Personally, I wouldn’t be interested in using an iPad to do any grading or adjustments to shots. Here’s what would be great to have though…

    a. App that allows you to view still grades in gallery
    b. Ability to populate specific still galleries on the iPad directly from Resolve
    c. Ability for client to select specific grades, make comments & send selections and comments back to colorist

If you are timing with ProRes444 from the Alexa, there won’t be any meta-data that comes embedded in the file like you get with RED. You’ll know simply by looking at the footage if it’s Log-C. Other than that, the best way is to communicate with the DP, DIT & production manager regarding your project.

Awesome post!!! This is the kind of stuff I find very helpful, especially when so many post houses keep ‘tight-lipped’ in my area.

    Cheers,

Is it possible the the ‘.mov’ extension from my offline files is causing the problem?

    Thanks for the input.
I’ve done all the above but it’s still not connecting anything. Very strange.

I am using Quicktime Pro Res files for the offline. Not the R3D proxies.

    I tried the same…
I’m wondering if Resolve can read the “.look” LUT’s from SpeedGrade.

Can you apply blanking though to just a handful of clips? Doesn’t blanking affect the entire timeline?
