[jake blackstone] “Do you mean, can you buy a Coke in a Pepsi bottle?:-)”
No Jake,
More like a Coke in a Pepsi vending machine 😉Craig

Thank you Rohit!
I am having a reoccurring problem with a couple of projects containing Pro Res files. When I try to save the projects, the progress bar often gets to %54 and then freezes. Any suggestions?
Kindly,

Equipment is important. Talented people are more important.
If a potential client makes choices based on the equipment and not the colorist, then somethings wrong. If you want to work with clients that demand Baselight / Filmmaster etc., then make the big, risky investment and go after that market. Warming though… just having the equipment they want won’t guarantee the work. At that point it’s all about the people.C

My guess is that the only difference between the existing FCP 7 and FCP X will be the GUI. I’m sure that the back end structure / XML’s / EDL’s will all be generated the same way.

I’ve learnt that anyone with money can buy whatever toolset they want. I’ve seen companies go out and purchase expensive suites (like Baselight) but don’t have the right people behind the controls.
If you are good at your craft, people will hire you – irregardless of whether or not some college kid has a free version of Resolve. However, if the college kid with the free Resolve is better than you are – then the college kid is the one who will get the job.
It’s an open market my friends. You determine your worth. Focus on doing excellent work with the tools you have and you’ll be successful.

[Matthew Sonnenfeld] “I am not complaining about Final Cut costing $299. Simply trying to figure out how a thousand dollar program undergoes a full overhaul from the ground up and comes out 70% less expensive. Raises more questions for me than excitement. That’s all.”
I felt the same way when DaVinci Resolve was released for $995 – however, we now know that the cost cut did not take away anything from the product.
Lightworks is now free and used on more big budget features than any other offline editing suite (King’s Speech – recent film).
Final Cut Pro – X is simply providing a very good product in an industry where tools are becoming cheaper.

[Peter Berg] “But you really don’t need the $995 version if you are doing HD since the free version really does everything you need.”
Not true.
You could use the free version to create simple grades which I think is great. It’s a perfect tool for creating looks on set with the DP / Director. For complex timing and anything over HD though, you’d need the $995 version.Craig

[Luke Maslen] “The best news is we are going to give this update to all Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve customers free of charge. We expect this update will ship before June.”
I feel myself getting all emomtional and full of love right now…

[Robert Houllahan] ” I have 3 GTX285’s in mine and have yet to run out of GPU.”
Have you been able to achieve real time debayering of R3D footage with the GTX’s and no RedRocket? -
“Where does Resolve keep the database files?”
I would also like to know the answer to that.
