Wow! Sounds like a horrfying process. How do you throw away the FCP prefs?

Crop? With which tool is best to crop? I don’t mean to sound ignorant, but this is my first experience with CC and I want to make sure it gets done right.

I’m going through the same thing myself. My Producer has decided to go through Video Caption Corporation, http://www.vicaps.com. I understand they charge about $250 for a 30 minute show to encode. Be aware that you get back an encoded Beta SP or DV tape, but if you try and digitize back into FCP, you will lose the encoding. You need to do an insert edit for commercials. Like I said, I’m going through that right now. I’m purchasing a Black Magic Decklink SP today for my Beta SP so I have machine control through the FCP. Good luck.

I’m working with FCP 4.1 on a G4. You can’t re-digitze the video into the FCP because it will not recognize line 21, where the captioning is.
I’m just looking for a cheaper solution than the Black Magic Decklink to do a simple insert edit onto a Beta SP tape.
I am aware of the issues you presented in your reply and thank you. CC is very ticklish.

What are you using for capture? DV, Camera, etc.? I have the same issue using even firewire to capture. It appears that the final product is OK once inside the edit platform.
