When I do videos for CD-ROM which involve demonstrating part of the CD, I just use the graphic elements of it instead of videotaping the screen. For a web page, hit Print-Screen and paste the image of the website into Photoshop, doctor up a cursor in AE, and just simulate the web page. Would be easier than trying to synchronize your camera to your monitor. Unless you have an LCD monitor handy. Then you can get that nice super-close-up pixel effect.

You’ll also want to pick up Trish and Chris Meyers’ books on After Effects, from CMP Books. I believe http://www.cmpbooks.com is where I ordered mine. Every forum I’ve ever seen recommends those books as the best.

For one thing, I think your graphics are too saturated for television. Back off on the yellows and reds. The colors in that jpeg are among the worst culprits in looking crappy on TV. Remember that NTSC doesn’t like 100% luminosity or 100% saturation.
How about a vertical blur of a couple of pixels?

How about a more violent shatter? It seems that no matter what I try, I can’t get the particles to really go *pow* at the beginning.

If you don’t want to buy any extra hardware just for this, find another camcorder. Either a Digital8 with firewire out, or any DV camcorder with S-video in. Then just use it to pass the signal thru to your computer’s firewire port.

I do, but I use the Velocity software package on it. You can use just Reality if you wish, I suppose. You need the AE I/O plugins which can be downloaded from the Leitch/DPS website.

Last I had checked, this was a $300 option, or something to that effect.

Congratulations! I’m getting married in 3 weeks. But I stayed as far away from a video presentation as I could 🙂 I did the invitations and the other print work myself, but no video.
One way to save money is to just pay a videographer to do a 2 or 3 camera shoot of the ceremony, then record PA audio independently, and edit your own video. That’s what we’re doing, and the videographer is a friend/coworker from the TV station anyway. That allowed us a bigger budget for photos.
If you want to do 3D moves and a lot of photos, I’d recommend keeping it simple so you don’t run out of time. There are enough other (more important) details to worry about in the next couple of months! 🙂

Here in ND I could go to the move three times for $22.50…yikes.
