I looked at your blog. Wow, it has a lot of information. Next up trying to find the blog article on the atomic bomb story edit that you mentioned.

  • Great stuff.

I think Quinton Tarantino used it in Hateful 8.

Just went to Hateful 8. Credits said it was filmed with Kodak film and I believe it was 70 mm. So in spite of Kodak’s bankruptcy, Hollywood loves film. Same applies for the new Star Wars although it was in iMax 3D, whatever format they are now using. On the other hand the resolution for super-8 leaves a lot to be desired and no blockbusters are to be expected. Of course the workflow all goes through digital intermediaries, so the editing is not much different starting from film or digital.

I still have my late sixties Minolta super 8 camera, but at these film prices it will continue resting deep in the garage.

He has 3 million subscribers, I have 350. Oh well, we both use FCPX.

I find it much more reliable to 1. Send to compressor. 2. Upload to Vimeo or Youtube etc. The direct share often had some problem. Compressor has some reasonable settings for uploading to online servieces and in my case, the compressed file ends up in movies file. More steps, but better control.

For the contingent of editors that stick to the “you can’t make a feature film in FCPX”, I am reminded of the Flat Earth Society who drew large crowds in England in the 1850’s.

Thanks, Oliver for putting up the trailer. It was fun to watch and made me think it would be a good movie to go to. Mission accomplished.

Good to know that it is working out. How important is the 4 G video card vs to 2 G? My mid 11 27 inch just boots to a gray screen, so I am guessing I will be upgrading once the genius bar guys tell me its junk. What about the internal drive? They now offer a 2TB fusion drive with 128 G SSD. I use an external raid for my FCPX files. Damn, sounds like $3k is about to fly out the window.

That is a great article on the art of editing for a documentary. Great examples included.

Thanks. Since I normally dragged in some setting from the left side of the window instead of hitting the plus sign under the file sent in from FCPX, I didn’t have the grey box come up. Once I hit the plus, it works. Sometimes Apple interfaces are just to clean.
