I have found when using Color Finale and it starts rendering, if I continue editing it generally crashes FCPX a few times. If I walk away an let it render, it is less prone to crashing. Osx 10.11.3 and FCPX10.2.3. Mid 11 iMac with 24 GB of memory.
Irritating, but that seems to be the way it is.

Wow, that was impressive to see. That is light years ahead of my workflow. OK, a light year is really a distance, not a time, but it sounds cool.

I edit lacrosse games from about 80 minutes to start with down to a highlight of about 5 minutes. The clips are usually a few minutes long and the interesting parts are only 10’s of seconds. I have finally learned to use jkl and i and o and then keyword the interesting part as a goal, hit, score, etc. Then I use a smart collection of those key words and dump it into the time line. It is quite efficient compared to dumping everything into the time line as I did after using FCP7. Hardly revolutionary, but it works efficiently and makes doing a highlight reel at the end of the season easy.

I think he is more amazing than FCPX. I have rarely seen an editor edit a full speed.

I saw the movie yesterday. It looked good even though it was shot at 2k. As a FCPX user, nothing jumped out as edited with FCPX, no surprise there. BoxOffice Mojo lists the production cost as $35 Million. I guess by Hollywood standards that is a small film.
Let’s see, 6 Mac editing suites at $5 k and 6 copies of FCPX at $300. makes $31,800 or about .1% of the production budget. At about 300 Hollywood movies per year, that would be a $10 million dollar market. Hmmm.

I had the same issue. I compressed the file a second time and it worked correctly producing an new version.

Tim’s WTF article underlines that it takes innovative film makers to adopt FCPX for a feature film. From what I have read, the number of Hollywood movies has dropped from 700 a year to 350 a year in the last 10 years and this has made it difficult for independent film makers. Hopefully, their approach of cutting the number of days shooting will open up the possibilities for more films per year.
Can’t wait to see Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

I enjoyed the film a lot, but all the inside stuff about Hollywood probably didn’t grab the general audiences. This article does make me wonder how thing might have evolved, had Apple went farther down the FCP7 road. I am happy with X but whether it will ever have much impact on Hollywood is a big question.

Maybe if you read through the FCPX or not Forum next door you can find an answer. I am happy with X and not having to pay a monthly fee, but the debate rages on. Either FCPX or PP have the power and tools to meet your business needs. You will need to do some tutorials to get up to speed with FCPX, since it is truly different than FCP7 or probably VEGAS, but once into it you will find it very solid.

I had a lot of random crashes (just FCPX crashing) and I did a clean system and FCPX install after many incremental upgrades. That seems to have helped a lot.
