Can you expand on render the files out to a clean set of clips. How do you do that? Export to 422 or something? In other words how do you bake in the corrections so FCPX doesn’t try to render each time? I have some files of digitized 16 mm film and want to try using Neat to denoise them.

I understand your comment about the dangers of using managed media in libraries in a shared project. I wonder whether that applies to a one person project, typical of what I do. It is very convenient (lazy?) to let FCPX manage the media by storing it in the libraries. I do keep original media elsewhere as a backup. To keep the media outside of the library would require some discipline and a rigorous file structure, which I haven’t developed.
Thoughts?

Thanks for the update. It has always been a mystery to me why these preference files can cause so much trouble. Next time, I will try this sooner than later.

I followed Larry Jordan’s tutorial on trashing FCPX preferences https://larryjordan.com/articles/fcp-x-trash-preferences-video/
and that seems to have fixed the frequent crashes. That was easy! -

I copied the project to a new library and it has been smooth sailing since. May not have resolved the problem in the old library, but thanks for saving my bacon. -

I am not clear on how to copy my project to a new library. How does that work in terms of copying the files it will need? Will it then tell me it is moving the needed files into the new library? I will definitely give this a try, because the library is very large and the project files very small.So are the steps?
Make a new library.
Make a duplicate project in old library
Move duplicate to new library.

I looked at the Affinity promo and it looks more like Photoshop, whereas iDraw is more a tool for drawing and very basic cad layouts.
Is Affinity a good alternative to Photoshop?

I didn’t use iDraw a lot, but it was a great vector drawing program for its price. As someone who started on MacPaint, then MacDraw, the MacDraft and then Mini-Cad, iDraw was very intuitive, powerful and cheap. Now it will probably get bloated up in features and in price, as has happened many times.

Of course I am glad that planes don’t crash as often as NLE’s. But really how much faster is the 787 compared to am707? Let’s hope FCPX does turn out to be the Concorde.

After reading this thread, it occurs to me that expecting a radical new approach to editing software is unlikely. As computers came up, there was a period of experimentation and rapid change. Just like the way the jet engine revolutionized aircraft design in the late forties and through the 1950’s. However the Boeing 707 came out in 1957. Does it look that different to the newest passenger jets? Hot really. They have many refinements, but the concept is not much different.
So being a bit cranky, NLE, the revolution is over. I think Apple was reaching for a revolution with FCPX, but it didn’t happen. I went with FCPX and it works for me, but Adobe PP would have been another way.
I took Yogi’s advice, if you come to a fork in the road, take it.
