I assume he partitions the Raid into pieces that can easily be copied to a single backup disk.
I use a 6 TB Raid 0 for my projects and imported media and then back it up on to a cheaper USB3 drive. I use Raid 0 for speed not safety. As everything for a project is in my libraries, I can move old libraries off to some other disk as they are no longer active. For me, it doesn’t seem to be advantageous to save the imported media and projects/event on separate disks. One is not much good without the other. Also, no relinking is required.
I also copy the card media onto another disk, in case something gets seriously corrupted on the FCPX files. -

September 26, 2015 at 7:00 am in reply to: please explain the new business model to meAs I first read here, the iphone 6s comes with 4k. I could resist and picked up mine today. 3840 by 2160.30p Codec AAC.H264.mebx. About 375 MB per minute. Not sure what I will use it for, but at least I can test out my Mac with FCPX on 4k, before going out for new 4k equipment.

Here is my observation. I like the Johnny Carson playing the theremin better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50Rtg5Vmlrc
Also, it appears that both FCPX and PP can be used to edit and these discussions verge on “How many angels can dance on the head of a pin.” I had to edit a fast cut commercial to music and after checking out the appropriate Mac Break Studio tutorial, it was really fast. -
Thanks, I blundered onto the FCP7 site by mistake, since I moved to X about 3 years ago with some difficulty, but now have become friends with X. I do have an XA10 and an XA20, but I guess I had moved to X before I got the XA20.

Can’t you just make a folder on your hard drive, read the sd card either from the camera using a usb cable or remove it and put it in a card reader, then drag the whole AVCHD file into the hard drive folder? Works fine on FCPX but it has been a while since I used FCP7. The XA20 can also record in MP4, which I prefer, but haven’t tired to use that on 7. Unlike AVCHD, the MP4 files can be read one at a time.
Maybe FCP7 is missing a codec. -
With the iPhone 6s touting 4k, as predicted on this forum, how much computing power will be needed to edit it? Can they really squeeze that in to a Photos equivalent video editing program? I transition from Aperture to Light Room and while I love the power of Light Room, I miss the ease and efficiency of using Aperture. May FCPX live on.

The Apple ad looks like the summer of love 1967. Amazing for the 1980’s. I couldn’t stick with the Microsoft ad too long, it was not quite as hilarious as they claimed.

OK I am sold. I am going to give it a shot.

August 11, 2015 at 5:46 am in reply to: Inserting all of a clip after it is segmented with keywordsWhile using Option X and then inserting clips worked for me in May, Using FCPX 10.2.1 it doesn’t. I previously went through an event, keyworded portions, but now Option X does not work and I can’t get the entire clips into the timeline, just the keyworded sections drop in.
Help! Am I doing something wrong or has this Option X function changed?
