I’m thinking about this, https://tinyurl.com/lylj2xx I already have an expansion chassis but want a Titan in my MacPro so I don’t always have to fire up or move the expansion box.

Anyone else using one of these?

    I use this: https://www.xrite.com/product_overview.aspx?id=1454

Love it, gets my Apple Cinema Display amazingly close to my FSI 2461w, even my 17″ powerbook looks pretty close to the other two.

I use the “long” or whatever it’s called, calibration.

I agree with Joe. After beating my head against the wall many times trying to make FCP or other projects “work” with Resolve, I now just render a timeline as one clip and put it in shot detect. This is only for projects that need no handles, obviously, and have special issues such as mixed frame rates, multiple layers, or are just not very organized. I’m an old timer and if the client wants x to y frames at a certain speed than that’s what I give them, not a frame or two either way.
Would be nice if all worked as advertised but sometimes the pragmatic approach is best.

I am thrilled that I upgraded to 2 gtx 580 classified ultra in a DIY cyclone expansion chassis for render. Put my 480 in for the GUI and did the After Effects and Premiere fix, WOW! GUI flys and AE renders are really speeded up, not to mention Resolve FLYS, makes a huge difference on 90 min shows with multiple nodes and NR at 1 or 2.

Anyone want my 120, will be ebaying soon, after this thread I’ll get $10 and shipping!

By the way, the Cyclone folks are great, pre sale and post sale! Also nice you can buy the components. I had an old ATX case and a new power supply and only had to buy the back plane, interface card and cable.

    MacVidCards was great as always.

  • Did a DSLR color grade, 30 min show and thought my eyes or monitor were going but then realized focus was found on about 10% of the shots! Invoice check cashed, so could be worse!

  • Always fun! Had to intercut with Arri 4×3 2880×2160 shot with a prime lens. About the only thing that helps is a little sharpening and noise reduction. Wish the DLSR thing would go away, it’s time!

    Jake,

Had the time and will be starting several long form projects in the near future, and with Time Machine, why not? Thought it might be useful information for some, nice to give back.

Yes, the experience of the graphics person(s) / companies vary widely! The most important thing I’ve found is to give them your specs about color space, time base, time code matching and shot naming.

The color space and matching gamma in and out of the efx program is critical, would suggest you test and document the steps and traps.

EFX is hard to do (see) on log footage but if the file they return has been linearized it may be hard to match with the camera original footage. I’ve had LOG background plates with linear foreground elements, FUN!

Suggest (demand?) to test a clip through the entire process before the project starts, and be prepared to explain why this is so important. Email or other documentation is a great CYA (Cover your A$$) method.

It’s always nice to hear from the client they are using someone who gets all of this. I spent many hours dealing with elements from people who don’t and it really is frustrating, especially when working for a fixed price!

    Depends! Always a safe answer!

If its only one or two elements in a shot, I like to get the matte and fill and grade the separate elements in context. This works well if you have good integration with the graphics folks, color space, timebase(fps) and TC all need to be right for it to work.

Love the add matte feature of Resolve!
