  • Are any other settings changing or not sticking, like Time & Date? Sounds a lot like a need for replacement of the logic board battery.

August 18, 2005 at 4:44 am in reply to: I want to uninstall fcp5 and reinstall it

Apple’s last document 93811 on FCP 4.5 uninstall is no longer on their support site. However, for some odd, prescient reason I had copied it, so
here’s the info. As noted, it applies to FCP HD (4.5) and other apps in the suite. YMMV with FCP 5. Proceed with caution!

Learn how to uninstall Final Cut Pro HD (4.5).

The Final Cut Pro HD installer does not include an uninstall option. The folders and files installed during a full installation of Final Cut Pro HD are listed below. To uninstall, delete the following items (some items may not be present depending on what has been installed). August 3, 2005 at 5:07 am in reply to: Saving files to the desktop

[jhbarlow] “Will an apple computer run better if large files are stored on the hard drive rather than on the desktop?”

The “Desktop” is simply a directory (folder), in your home directory, on your system drive, that fills up your screen and provides a visual workspace. Its icons, as in any folder, represent files on your hard drive, that happen to be living in a “Desktop” folder. It’s not some mysterious storage area hiding under a rock inside your computer. Under Mac OS 9, the desktop actually was not a good place for longterm, large file storage, for various reasons. Under OS X that’s not an issue, except that organizationally, it’s not good file management practice. As mentioned elsewhere, you should be saving captured media to a drive other than your system drive. Organize apps, documents, etc in appropriate folders. Use the Desktop for temporary stashing of zipped downloads, docs, etc, before moving them to more appropriate locations. You can create desktop aliases (shortcuts) to particular items, or learn how to use the Dock for similar purposes.

August 3, 2005 at 4:43 am in reply to: New Apple mouse

[Bob] “I just got a Wacom Intuos, which has a 5 button mouse & I HATE the side buttons! Click the darn things all the time by mistake. WHY can’t ALL the mouse designers take a hard look at the Logitech MX500/700 5-button mice – they’re SUPERB. Ergonomic and the extra buttons are neatly tucked out of accidental triggering zone. I’m considering returning the Intuos because the mouse is so poor.”

I didn’t care for the Wacom mouse either, but I got so used to using the Intuous tablet (and you do buy it for the tablet, not the mouse, after all), that I rarely reach for the mouse, Wacom’s or original equipment, for anything. I do plan to try the Apple multibutton mouse, just to get a taste of Hell Frozen Over.

July 29, 2005 at 4:24 am in reply to: PLEASE I GOT A JOB !!!! but whats this????

Again I refer you to Tektronix
    https://www.tek.com/Measurement/cgi-bin/framed.pl?Document=/Measurement/App_Notes/NTSC_Video_Msmt

Table of Contents > Understanding the Waveform Display

See also your FCP manuals. In Vol III are Waveform monitor and Vectorscope and how to read them.

It’s a bit beyond the capability of a text-based forum like this one to deliver a course in video measurement techniques.
Use the Profusely Illustrated resources available on the web, if you don’t like the Tek document, Google “video waveform monitor” or “Video Measurement” and hundreds of other tutorials will come up. Go to the TV station that wants to air your spot. Talk to an engineer there. See if there’s a local SMPTE or SBE chapter in your area; they might offer some assistance.
If you’re going to work in video, know how video works.
