Well technically I did put the file on my 8gb thumbdrive but its still in Quicktime format. So I never tried ingesting that file into our system. I am almost positive for me to ingest footage into our server system at work, it needs to be in P2 format. Second thought, I take that back because before we switched to P2 we were using Beta SX tapes and ingesting them just fine. Now another thought would be to get another hard drive like you mentioned then format that drive to P2. I wonder if that would work but that goes back to my original thought that the original file would still be in a quicktime format unless its converted somehow to P2 format right?

Well I heard about one of the other TV stations in the market had Panasonic send them some sort of software that they were able to download to their camera (they shoot with the same P2 camera) because they were having the same issue of very dark video when shooting at night. Apparently the software they downloaded fixed the problem. So I may have to give our Panasonic Rep a call. I was just hoping I could tweak some of the settings in the menu’s to allow the camera to see more detail when shooting at night.

OK what about Motion 3? Do you think I could use that for the warp effect?

I tried that but it made 1,046 SGI files on computer. I opened up QT Pro and all those files were all over my screen to the point I had to force quit QT. This is really annoying because I have done a bunch of projects with Motion in the past and have never experienced this much frustration with trying to export a 30 second animated project!

It kinda looked low quality while it was still on the timeline but I figured once it rendered and I exported it out and dropped it into my FCP project and burned to a DVD it would be better quality but in my opinion it didn’t look good after it was burned to a DVD. Like I said it could be me just being critical of my work or there could be an issue with my system too.

December 3, 2008 at 10:34 pm in reply to: Upgrading Video card on older machine?

Ok well I bought the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro card over the weekend which was recommended for my system as an upgrade. Now the instructions state that I should locate the current graphic card drivers and remove them before installing the new card. That sounds more like a PC thing to me. Someone else told me to install the new card and don’t fiddle around with the drivers because I could mess my system up. I am confused on what to do since it came with a Software installation CD for Mac OS systems. The card is PC and Mac compatible.

Those of you that upgraded your cards before, does any of this sound correct to you? Just trying to get to the bottom of this before I install the new card and Final Cut Studio 2.

Well for what its worth I can run Motion 2 with no problem using the card that came with my computer back in 2003. Now I DO know that I should upgrade my card before installing FC Studio 2.
