    1) Use Selection Editing Tool. Make election along the desired portion or the whole length of the track/tracks you want to lock then right click and select ‘Switches’ then select ‘Lock’.

    2) Or use the ‘Shift’ key and whilst holding it down select the first video event on the track and its corresponding audio and while still holding down the shift key right click on one of the events and use ‘Select Events to End’. Now right click and use ‘Switches’ and ‘Lock’.

Either method will lock all events and then changes can’t be made. Then as Gary said minimise the hight of the locked tracks. I will often rename the track header as ‘LOCKED’ as a reminder.

A great little program for printing CD/DVD’s and making the the cover art for them is Acoustica.

    https://www.acoustica.com/cd-label-maker/

They also have a fairly large library of art packs you can download. Some of thes packs are free and others range up to $10.

Thanks Ed. You hit the nail on the head. I didn’t have the keyboard mapping set up under ‘Global’n never twigged that I had set the keys up under ‘Mixer’. Once I set them up under Global it was fine so here we go giving it a go. BTW Excalibur will work with XDCam HD MXF files won’t it?

Thanks all for the feedback. I thought there was a keyboard around that didn’t have the jog wheel, is there one? Just need a good Vegas keyboard and will use the Shuttle Pro with it as it seems to be the best of the dedicated jog wheels.

    Fred ~

The only reasonably priced NLE I know of that handles 720/50p realtime is Edius with the Edius NX Express PCI card. I have Edius and am not a great lover of some of its workflow issues but I must admit the output quality is good. NX has analogue component output. Look at the following link for a rundown on the NX card:

If you want HD/SDI their turnkey systems will handle 720/50p, see:

November 26, 2006 at 10:51 am in reply to: How do I add a point with the keyboard.

Left button, just double click on the envelope. If you then want fine movement control hold the Alt key for sliding the point left-right and the Ctrl button for sliding the key point up-down. Very precise .dB adjustments available in Ctrl up-down mode.

Geez! Whish I had a $ for everytime I’ve done that in the past. Do the same now, turn off sync cursor everytime when finished with a keyframe sequence.

Having just checked it’s actually TM 5.0 Pro which was an upgrade from 4.2 for Premiere, think I originally got 4.2 with Prem 5.5 or 6, and yes it’s a dongled program. It will install as a stand alone program without Premiere installed. No HD resolution support though. I also have another system with Edius 3.6 which also has TM onboard which I tend to use for long rollers and crawls as it’s real-time with hardware. Create them in Edius over the video and render that section out and bring it back into Vegas. Edius TM also supports full HD reso exports. Bit of a work around I know but Vegas is below par when it comes to the likes of Inscriber, Title Deko etc. Harris who took over Inscriber now list TM as a ‘legacy’ program and its only current listing is for the Avid family. I believe you can upgrade your dongle to a USB one through Harris if you no longer have a parallel port.
