Caption generator for vegas
Posted by Alan Lacey on November 15, 2006 at 7:33 pmVegas is a bit weak generating captions, can I ask if anyone is using a third party caption generator and if so which one?
Many thanks

November 16, 2006 at 4:36 pmTitlemotion by Inscriber. Very popular and high-end, but easy to use. Be sure to Export your layouts, so that you can go back and make changes. Export your images (I export images as 32 bit Targas), bring them into Vegas, place on timeline, right click and choose media, then alpha channel and set to premultiplied. Now your title will key over the track below. Good Luck!

November 16, 2006 at 7:34 pmThanks John,
I’ve actually used Inscriber and then TitleMotion since the Dos years but my v4.1 has a parallel port dongle and I assumed that TM was more or less obsolete now. I’d be more than happy to get it up and running on my new Vegas box.

November 18, 2006 at 3:41 amI also use TM 4.2 for CG work using 32 bit TGA’s. Works well. If you need tighter integration of a CG within Vegas Cayman Graphics have a couple of versions, Power CG Plus and Power CG RFs that work with Vegas as plugins and can be accessed from the timeline. Similar to Titlemotion but they ‘aint cheap when compared to the price of Vegas!

November 18, 2006 at 6:54 pmThanks Chris, is your TM 4.2 dongled? If I could work my way round the PP dongle I’d be happy staying with 4.1

Having just checked it’s actually TM 5.0 Pro which was an upgrade from 4.2 for Premiere, think I originally got 4.2 with Prem 5.5 or 6, and yes it’s a dongled program. It will install as a stand alone program without Premiere installed. No HD resolution support though. I also have another system with Edius 3.6 which also has TM onboard which I tend to use for long rollers and crawls as it’s real-time with hardware. Create them in Edius over the video and render that section out and bring it back into Vegas. Edius TM also supports full HD reso exports. Bit of a work around I know but Vegas is below par when it comes to the likes of Inscriber, Title Deko etc. Harris who took over Inscriber now list TM as a ‘legacy’ program and its only current listing is for the Avid family. I believe you can upgrade your dongle to a USB one through Harris if you no longer have a parallel port.

Can’t seem to get anywhere just upgrading the dongle unfortunately as that would do me.
