Is the file in P2 format or Quicktime format? If Quicktime, just import the files/folder directly. You don’t use the P2 log and capture for that. Also the Firestore breaks the video into 2 GB clips. If you have one 24GB clip there is something wrong.

Yes I have been using this method on the Quicktimes made with the FS-100 since version 3.01. You get spoiled fast. No more “log and import”. It really speeds up your workflow and overall productivity!

Once again you miss the obvious. Use FS-100s for 254 minutes of HD footage on one drive. Back up to your laptop or external drive at night (or during shooting breaks). (Either P2 or FS-100 workflow requires backup of the same amount of data!). With the FS-100 you don’t have to hire the P2 monkey. I travel and shoot all the time with this workflow. Using P2 for long shoots and documentary coverage is just plain foolish. Convince your producer and save time, energy, money and hassles.

One quick question though, does the CHV plug-in work on HD credit rolls,and more importantly, does it render cleanly without all the artifacts, flickering and “formulas” needed for any other imported credit rolls (AE, RED) renders within FCP??

Actually I just had to render a 2 minute title roll sequence (animation + alpha) in an SD project within FCP which also took an inordinate amount of time to render. With 8 gigs of Ram on a new Intel octocore I was expecting better FCP performance than that. Looks like I may have to farm out the heavy duty rendering composites to AE, combustion or RED again ;>( …

Except for H.264. I had a 4 minute DVCProHD segment that took over an hour to render in FCP. I don’t remember 5.1 taking nearly that long.

Also if you just can’t wait, both FCP and PPro work fine with the Matrox MXO box. But of course you only get HD/SD outputs with this option. If you are mainly using DVCPROHD like I am, you don’t need the inputs!
