Yes the FS-100 rocks! 294 minutes of DVCPROHD 720PN on a single shoot, without having to play “swap and load” with small capacity P2 cards. I have two and have used them in performance, studio, feature, and “run and gun” scenarios with no problems. Just make sure to actually read the very small manual and do a few test shoots before a major gig so you get comfortable with the workflow.

Do a search both in this forum and the Firestore forum and you should have more than enough reading material to keep you busy for awhile and ultimately make your own decision.

Christopher here (SF!). I only shoot with the Firestore in 720Pn24fps now. It will work fine on a PC, just get Raylight and your Quicktime files in DVCPROHD will work fine in all your Windows apps. BTW, when using the FS-100, choose the Quicktime Pn option, not the P2 option. You will get double the recording time with no quality loss, and you won’t have to convert the MXF files to the app you want to use them in. If you are using a lot of filters in AE, I would also suggest converting the DVCPROHD files to the Quicktime lossless animation codec for working and rendering. Downconverting to SD is also painless in either AE or PPro.

Try repairing the clips in the Firestore menu and reimporting. Just curious, did you only shoot 1080i on your firestore? Did you match your exact FS-100 settings with the 1080i settings on the HVX??

Yes a 6-pin FW connector on the HVX would have been a much better, sturdier (and easy to implement) design!

I’ll contact you offline as well, but these are the proper settings for both HVX and FS-100 for fixing the problems you are having. Place the HVX in UB Mode FRM Rate, 1394 Control Ext, 1394 Cmd Sel Rec_P, TC-rec run. Place the Firestore in External Ctl Pause, TC ext, non-drop Frame. With these settings, the FS-100 is triggered everytime you hit the record button on the HVX, and goes into record pause when you hit the HVX record button again, just like it would if you were using a Mini DV camera tape. Using these settings I have never had the problem you mentioned while recording.
