Hi Bob, Jeremy,
Thanks for your advise.
My apologies…the project will be in 23.98psF instead of 24psF.
Bob, you mentioned that the VTR will convert to normal PAL frame rate for me. So if I edit and master to the HD VTR in 23.98psF format, I can then playback through the HD VTR and output a PAL HD output (and downconverted SD output) at 25fps ?
Are both the Sony HDCAM and Panasonic D5 VTRs capable of doing this ?

Hi Simmie,
I see you’re still running Cinewave on your G4s. What version of FCP are you running with them ?
Yeah…I hope Apple will include that as part of the Quicktime codec list. If Apple wants ProRes422 to be widely adopted, they should do that.

You may want to check out Silverstack : http://www.pomfort.com/silverstack
It does batch DPX to Quicktime conversion, reads the timecode in the DPX header and apply it to the Quicktime TC track. You can determine which Quicktime codec to use. This application is great for making offline Quicktime clips from DPX sequences to edit in FCP and then spit out an EDL to conform back to the DPX sequences in a DI suite later.
Check it out.

Hi Michael,
The EDL is to be used in a conform station to conform from DPX sequences. We converted the low res JPEG sequences to Quicktime for offline edit in FCP. From there we generate an EDL which is then manipulated through a script which copies the clipname (in the info *FROM CLIP:) to the tapename. The conform station uses the tapename to conform to the hi-res DPX sequences and it is case sensitive but because of the upper case in the EDL, we now have to use upper case for all the file naming.
I’ll give the other EDL formats a try.

Thanks Andy…somehow I completely forgotten about this feature ! I actually knew about this and told someone else before…I guess my brain wasn’t working when I posted the message.
It worked great…thanks again !

Hi Christopherk,
If you figure out a way to trigger recording via GPI-RS422 conversion with the AJA VTR Exchange, appreciate if you can share it here as it can open up interesting projects opportunities for us.
BTW, which GPI-RS422 converter are you using ?
