And Avid has been telling people from day 1 that non-Avid drives are not qualified for use with Avid systems and now a simple relabelling from Medea VideoRAID to Avid VideoRAID suddenly qualifies it.

VHS signals are generally very unstable and may be why you are seeing the symptoms. Do you have another composite source that you can feed into the Kona card ? That way you can check if the composite input is working or not.

    Yan,

You can avoid alot of technical grievance by keeping things simple. If you have a control room, I’m sure you have a remote patch bay so why don’t you just run a long 9pin extension for the Kona LHe ? As for this null modem adapter suggestion, you’ll have to test it out for yourself to see if it works for you.

And as for the DSR11, I’m just suggesting you to use Firewire for control, not capturing via Firewire. You can feed composite to the Kona LHe for uncompressed capture but use Firewire for remote control instead. I’ve actually done a test where I modified a DV capture preset and instead of capturing to the DV codec, I specified it as 10bit uncompressed because I needed to match those captured from DV source to those from DigiBeta and it seems to work. I’ve only tested on short duration clips though.

    1) Why do you need to connect the RS422 from Kona LHe to the SD Connect and then to Beta VTR ? Why can’t you go directly from the Kona LHe to the Beta VTR ?

    2) Why don’t you just use the Firewire on the G5 to control the DSR-11 ?

Going one big round is going to introduce unnecessary problem.

You’re trying to dump out a HD timeline to your Beta machine ? You need to set up the downconversion so that it is outputting an NTSC signal instead.

sorry folks that I’ve given the wrong info…I remember a while back that someone tried using the 9pin cable that came with the VTR and it didn’t work so I’d assume that those cables are wired specifically for edit controller to VTR.

Since you are using a KL-BOX with your LHe, you need to use a straight 9pin to 9pin cable to connect from the KL-BOX to the VTR. Don’t use the 9pin cable that comes with the VTR as it will not work.

As Bob suggested, use the breakout cable which has the RS422 port and see if it works. That will determine if the fault is with the KL-BOX or the LHe card itself.

However I would try a straight 9pin to 9pin cable first.

January 26, 2006 at 2:16 am in reply to: Dropped frames on some projects not on others???

If you copy the problematic timeline and paste it into the other two projects that have no problems, do you still encounter the drop frame ?

We’ve noticed that at times a project can end up corrupted and start behaving weirdly.

The Component and Composite/Y-C are switchable from the AJA Control Panel so you can’t have all active at the same time.

You can get the AJA D10CE and convert the 2nd SDI output to Component AND Composite outputs. Or you can just get the AJA D4E and convert the 2nd SDI output to 2 x Composite outputs and use the LHe for the Component output.
