Do your sequence settings match your clips?
From what Hard drive/Raid are you playing back the clips form?
Computer specs?

DVD is NOT HD, it is not Near HD.

There is DVD (standard-definition)

There is Bluray (high-definition)

Then there are digital files which can fall anywhere in between, to be played back off a computer hard drive.

There are so many variables here.

25p with motion in the camera movements will result in motion blur.

If you are trying to create a Bluray, use the Bluray presets.

If you want a digital file, use the Vimeo/YouTube presets.

If you want a DVD, use the DVD presets.

You’re doing it correctly, drop a clip in a blank sequence and let FCP match it best for you.

B/C 1080i is always seen as interlaced. Historically there has not been any 1080p when shooting, this will change.

So, you shoot 1080i/24p you are progressive but wrapped in a 1080i stream.

Not really, you’re doing it correctly, drop a clip in a blank sequence and let FCP match it best for you.

You’re shooting square. So edit square, export/master to square. You can compress to any deliverable from there. It’s hip to be square, remember?
