  • Changing the center point on a video

Posted by Ryan Sereno on January 10, 2012 at 5:25 pm

I want a video to zoom in (to the direct center) over a few seconds through the use of scale key frames.
I repositioned the video in the frame, so the center point of it is no longer in the center of the frame. How do I change the center point of the video, without changing the position of the video?

I want the video to zoom to the direct center, and not to the center point of the video

    thanks

If you start full screen center and adjust scale over time, it will go straight in as you want.

I thought this too but it isn’t working.

I need it to line up with an underlying clip which is zooming in at the same rate (so I thought).

The start and end frames line up, but they get out of sync in the middle. I think this is happening because the 2 clips are different resolutions, so I need to figure out the scale size ratio between the both and I’ll retry this method

    thanks

Ah, nesting can help sometimes with this too.

In the Effect Controls tab, change the Anchor Point to be centered on your subject. Reposition the shot to be centered. Keyframe Scale and your subject will zoom to the subject. That’s how you do it!

In After Effects, you do not need to reposition the shot, so that is an advantage there.

You can change the anchor point too in the parameters of the Motion effect, selecting and moving it in X and Y axis, so the video will take it as reference to rotation, scale, etc…
