I’ve always just plugged the drive into a WIN box and formatted and then hooked it up to the make to lay the files onto. Seems to work.

Render the Footage out of AE in PAL format.
Create a FCP project in PAL.

Make sure the deck will record PAL.

    Output to tape.

The deck will generate timecode for you.

Do u need slate and bars? Is it broadcast? Then ur start TC may have requirements.

May 10, 2010 at 11:30 pm in reply to: FCP and Canopus ADCV-110 Capture problems

    Issue One:
How bout after you capture? How does it look on the ext. monitor?

    Issue Two:
Use easy setup, make sure your timeline matches your video. Turn off deck control. Can you feed firewire from mac to ADVC110 Media Converter?

    Issue Three:
I remember toaster days back in the 90’s. You need to convert those AVI’s to Quicktimes. If you edit in DV25 then this is what you want to convert to. Get some good compression software, you love it and use it for life. I recommend Episode – it does it all.https://www.telestream.net/episode/overview.htm
You do NOT want to bring in AVI or WMV files into FCP for editing. WMV files are for viewing, this is not a codec for editing.

    Fourth and final issues:
Use DV easy setup for your editing.
Use compressor or another compression software to make your mpeg4 files. Don’t forget you have a Manual to read.
    Good luck!

If it’s rendered – it doesn’t reference. Unrender it and it’ll update.

    If you want 24p – shoot 24p – don’t convert via software.

Ya, ur source material is in the XDCAM codec.

When you change the sequence settings to ProRes and render – u r then working in the Prorez codec.

Can u recapture straight to prores? That would be the best choice.

Can you send all the clip thru compressor and batch convert to prores b/4 bringing back into FCP – that would be the next best choice.

If you only change the sequence settings and render – everytime you make an edit – it will become unrendered. If your edit is all done, then this won’t matter so much.

  • Search the post there are a few different ways to do this.
    DVDSP does Not support Blu-Ray.

However, you can buy a burner to go in the mac.
Buy Roxio Toast and burn away.

Are you ripping a standard NTSC DVD?

Mpeg Streamclip will convert to DV PAL.

However you can convert to a Pal HD by selecting 50 fields or frames

May 1, 2010 at 2:45 pm in reply to: using HD footage within NTSC

When you say NTSC??? do you just mean SD??? HD can be NTSC as is.

The SD sequence in FCP is LowerFields first. Your HD clip is probably upper or none. If you really want/must pan-and-scan a HD clip for SD – do it in AE and import finished render into FCP.

For best quality, capture your HD material with a card like AJA Kona3 and hardware convert to SD on ingest.

Second choice would be to run ur HD clip thru compressor and software convert to your SD needs.

Best yet, Shoot and edit everything in HD.
