    FCP 7.0.2

There has to be a better way to do this, so I’d love to get some suggestions.

In FCP, we’re editing a whole bunch of commercials that all have to have slates on the beginning of them referencing:

    Length (doesn’t change)
    Audio mix (doesn’t change)
    Title (CHANGES)
    Date (CHANGES)
    and some other stuff.

Here’s how I want to do it (but don’t know how)

We can set up ahead of time, the 10 or so different titles, because although there’s variety, they don’t really change.

The date has to be inputted every day, so I say…
    1. make one sequence with just the date as text.
    2. Make 10 more sequences with the rest of the info, and the date plopped on top
    3. drop slates in front of video and export.

PROBLEM: I did this, but when you change the date, it doesn’t update. What am I missing? They should all be referencing the same date sequence?

    Suggestions?

If it’s rendered – it doesn’t reference. Unrender it and it’ll update.

You could also make yourself a Motion template. Only publish the text you want to change (date, title) to FCP. Then add the master template to each sequence, change the date and title in controls and Bob’s your uncle.
