FCP and Canopus ADCV-110 Capture problems
I’m really frustrated and could use some advice. Sorry for all the questions.
We just purchased a brand new mac pro dual quad core with 8gb ram.
and a Canopus ADVC-110. We’ll use the canopus to send video to an external ntsc monitor for use while editing and to also bring in a live video feed from our switcher into fcp. (S-Video and rca audio) (we edit DV not HD)Issue One: When I try to get the video into FCP I get wide horizontal lines moving up and down the screen both in FCP and my external monitor using the canopus. If I take the live feed output from our switcher and stick it directly into my monitor it looks fine. It’s just a standard s-video cable or rca video cable, both look bad in fcp, but fine elsewhere. At first I thought it might be 60 cycle hum from bad grounding, but I ground lifted and also plugged everything into the same power sources. IS THERE SOME KIND OF SETTING I AM MISSING TO MAKE THIS WORK IN FCP?
Issue Two: It seems I can’t view my timeline video on my external monitor at the same time as in fcp edit window. It will show one or the other but not both at the same time. I know this should work.Issue Three: We use the NewTek Video Toaster for our switcher and it saves files as an avi file when I record the program output. We also use Windows Media Encoder for Streaming which saves a wmv file. I don’t think FCP likes avi files or wmv files all that much if I understand what I have been reading. WHAT IS RECOMMENDED FOR CONVERTING THESE FILES (avi and wmv) SO THAT I CAN EDIT THEM IN FCP. I heard something about Flip for Mac and HandBrake, any ideas?
Fourth and final issues:
– Can someone tell me the best settings for my dv projects, what to look for etc.
– Also we want to put our service online for iTunes to pick up making a mpeg4 file. What is the best way and file type to export a completed project for iTunes. and what settings are best. We would like to have have a smaller file size and don’t need the best video quality. But a good mix of size vs image quality. Thanks for all the help.
I really appreciate it!!!!!!
