I have the same camera and also had problems initially.
If 1080i60 fireware basic is not working try setting it to just 1080i60 firewire then swapping it back again.
Obviously check your tape actually is HDV and not DV.You can change some of the greyed out settings only when the firewire cable is not connected. So disconnect, change and try again.
You’ll get it in the end. I thought i had a broken camera/cable at first it took me so long to get it working. Now it works every time and i wonder what my initial problem was.

I’m using 6.0.5 – it has always worked correctly for me in the past
so i’m a bit flummoxed.I’m wondering if it’s something to do with affiliate clips (and my lack of understanding of them) – have i somehow created another master clip without realising and it’s linking back to that?
is it something that has occured “behind the scenes” when i have stereo paired the audio of a clip in the timeline etc etc?
If i click in the browser and go Tools>Create Master Clips it’s adding a bunch of duplicate master clips to my project…
I know i’m missing something obvious but what….?

Sorry – i meant to say that the above suggestion by John Chappell (see link) fixed my issues when i had the same error. Took just 5 minutes and i was up and running agian (after hours of trashing prefs & restarting)
I advise that you DO select the checkbox to make your qmaster available for sharing when doing the reinstall. Then update your proapps.

How could you tell it was corrupted media? – i am having a mare with multiclips at the moment. All was well for a day or two but now i am getting weird error messages (“sequence error unable to add clip to sequence possible media limits”) and my viewer is going alternatley grey then blank…

hmmm… looks like the keyboard technique with standard controls only switches view – turns out you have to map some extra functions to get it to cut at the same time… There’s no Cut between angles keyboard assignment by default.
Solution is to map the kepad to Cut between angles and save that layout as a new Multiclip Keypad Setting -
I am having this same problem…
Really frustrating to get to the end and all your markers just go POOF!
I am also using keyboard to select angles.
Will try with button bar (yuk – i might have to get my mouse out!)FCP 6.06 / OSX 10.5.7

Ah yes thanks – i know that software and it IS awesome – but it works by analysing the sound files to sync the clips together. Because i filmed the songs in separate takes they are slightly different each time so that approach wont work for me unfortunately.

Thanks Michael – i had a suspicion that exports were the only way – was hoping to avoid it though.
Ah well, thank goodness for batch exports at bed time…Pity you can’t just nominate tracks as each “angle” once you’ve done the sync.

Sounds like you might be best off shooting for 4:3 with a framing guide on your viewfinder.
Then, one way would be to use a sequence with 4:3 aspect ratio and scale down your 1920 x 1080 clips to fit – this way you will also have some leeway left and right for re-framing if you need it. And you could use the same media if you ever want to do a 16:9 version later on. If you go the compressor route you will be “hard setting” your crop and possibly waiting a bit for conversions and spending too much time fiddling about.I’m no authority on the subject though, so see what some other cows have to say before going ahead.
