January 21, 2009 at 9:03 pm in reply to: Blinking PLAYBACK STD in XL H1 SIGNAL SETUP Menuhi again all – just a quick one to say thanks to Christopher Knell and every one else.
I had tried everything and the idea that the canon’s firewire section had gone kaput seemed plausible…
However – a perfectly fine cable died between leaving work (where i was using it with a deck) and arriving my house tro test my new camera – what were the chances of that!?
With a new cable (thought i’d better check on the offchance!) everything was fine and dandy.
Feel silly now.

January 19, 2009 at 11:29 pm in reply to: a FINAL solution to the FCP – XHA1 problem?does that flashing message definitely mean the camcorder’s firewire connection is shot? I have the same problem. Guess i’ll be sending mine back if so. (I was very careful to make sure camera was off when plugging in firewire so that’s why i’m just double checking you are sure this means it is broken – sorry to question you!)

January 19, 2009 at 11:21 pm in reply to: Blinking PLAYBACK STD in XL H1 SIGNAL SETUP Menui also have this problem
brand new canon xh-a1
osx 10.5.6
fcp 6.0.5i am an freelance editor and have used this machine FCP with other decks and cameras successfully for a good while
have tried every permutation i have found on forums for 4 hours
shot 50i for the whole tape, easy setup HDV 1080/50i firewire basic etc
main sticking points that hasn’t been answered as far as i can tell:
on the xh-a1, PLAYBACK STD AUTO in the SIGNAL SETUP menu is flashing (does this really mean the firewire connection on the camera is broken? can anyone confirm?)
please help – going nuts…

i’ve had this problem too – i think it’s a bug
to get round it:
go to your fontbook and disable/ delete all but the plain version
of the font you want to use. This seems to stop the italics override.matt

I’m really struggling with this as well despite having read the above posts carefully
as I can (after a 12 hour day…. )I’m using Final Cut 6.02
I’ve tried both the media manager method and the EDL export-import method. With the media manager method I get the same problem – it wants to capture
the whole tape.
(I remembered to uncheck “include master clips outside selection” )With the EDL export (CMX3600) when i import it the sequence is empty.
Has anyone else found a common mistake not mentioned so far – some setting somewhere
that a newcomer to FCP may have missed?MacPro Dual 2.66, 2GB Ram, NVIDIA 7300, OSX 10.4.10, FCS2

I was under the impression you could film as normal on the Z1
(ie with high GOP compression) then on capture, using the
blackmagic card, strip out the compression for larger file
sizes without the GOP issue..
Is this not correct? I’d like to know as I am also hoping to go
this route or similar…Also would be interested to know how my system might cope
with this converted HDV without a RAID set up.Anyone?

December 5, 2007 at 1:25 pm in reply to: Solution to a mixture of demands for monitoring & capture?Thank you Kristian that’s really helpful – do i need some kind of adapter to go out from the Intensity Pro to composite
SD and/or s-video SD? It seems to just have the firewire
and HDMI ports…Also if anyone can suggest some “basic quality” monitors
that would be great. I’m obviously not going to be
doing super high end grading work just yet but i would
like to be able to get stuck in to some colour work –
especially on the music videos…thanks!
