  • Multiclip workaround – other than exporting?

    Hello there everyone,

i have done a good search for this but not found quite what i was looking for.

I shot a small concert on ONE camera – multiple takes for each song.
I have now synced each take (by eye/ear) for each song on the timeline – like this:

Is there any way of going into multicam mode without exporting each track seperately and then bringing them back in (will this work if i use ref files?)

It would be so great if someone out there could suggest a work around for me as I have many songs to do in this way.

I know it’s a ridiculous way to work but i did this for a friend on a zero pence budget using my own HDV camera and tried to get as much coverage as I could.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    All the best,

    C

It will work with ref movies but I suggest taking the time to out each track as a new movie. Ref movies work fine as long as you don’t movie the source clips, if you do it can be a nightmare, so if space isn’t an issue Export self-contained, with current settings. If you have sync’ed everything up, each new clip will have the same TC. Then bring back the new clips and put them into a multicam clip.

Make sure you turn off the tracks below the one you are exporting (figuring you know to turn off the ones above) since you have gaps you don’t want the clip below to show through on these gaps.

In the end spending a little extra time on the front end will save you a ton of time and frustration through the project.

Thanks Michael – i had a suspicion that exports were the only way – was hoping to avoid it though.
Ah well, thank goodness for batch exports at bed time…

Pity you can’t just nominate tracks as each “angle” once you’ve done the sync.

There is an application called pluraleyes that will match audio clips and prepare a multiclip regardless of timecode. Singular Software makes it. hope this helps

Ah yes thanks – i know that software and it IS awesome – but it works by analysing the sound files to sync the clips together. Because i filmed the songs in separate takes they are slightly different each time so that approach wont work for me unfortunately.
    Bah!

You said “Ref movies work fine as long as you don’t movie the source clips” I don’t understand. What does it mean to “movie the source clips?”
The reason I ask, I’m also hoping to find a way to multiclip 5 video tracks which are full of gaps.
