Hmm, not sure, but as a quick test, render the paint animation out so it’s just a greyscale movie. It should look like a fuzzy whitish drop over black. Import this back in. Add the displacement map effect to your BG video. Add the greyscale movie to the comp and turn off the visibility. Now in the displacement effect select the greyscale map. It should displace the BG using your tear.
But really pre-comping should do the same as rendering out and re-importing.

[Barend Onneweer] “I think you’re referring to DigiBeta. Beta SP is of course analog and the sampling ratios depend on how you capture it. “
Ah yes, i missed that. whenever i hear beta it is in terms of digibeta as it seems SP is in the history books with 3/4″ at least around these parts. 🙂
Keep truckin.
Dr:
To answer one of your Q’s, I capture Digi through SDI to 10 bit Black Magic codec if on FCP or to 10 bit Avid codec if on the DS. Both obviously at 720 x 486.

My buddy did the effect for the Corona spot where the drop runs down the side of the beer bottle and drips on a plant. It looked as real as it gets and all it he did was use AE paint to create a greyscale map that was used as a displacement map.

You need a volumetric light. In AE you would need LUX.
But it’s a piece of cake in 3D. Just create a light, set it to visible (with noise to break it up). Then in the light color channel, assign your quicktime movie. Then it will be a movie projected in fog.

Are you setting the output settings to Millions of Colors+ (The plus means with alpha channel).
Side note, it is common to not use an alpha with a lens flare but to just use the screen transfer mode instead.

For reference, using the Back setting of the orth views is best, but don’t forget using the “Background” object for the perp view.

Solved. For the archive record:
Use an instance object under the Nurb. Then in Xpresso attach the User Link box to the Reference Object input of the Instance Node.
