June 1, 2006 at 5:56 pm in reply to: College Director Seeks Advice From Respected Cow Forum Industry Pros:3. It’s like the old saying , “You can teach a monkey to turn knobs”. I have seen guys who barely know how to use software but because they are gifted artists with a solid vision, they make miracles happen with a few tools. Whereas I most often see guys who know programs in and out but make less than interesting stuff. So my official answer is yeah, know the tools the industry uses, but don’t think it stops there. I would say knowing HOW to use software is less than 1% of the requirement of a successful career. It is a requirement non-the-less, but only the very beginning of the journey. I would also stress not being application-centric. Compositing is compositing. Learn compositing and not just AE/Shake/Fusion/Flame/DS. If you are a gifted compositor, one just needs to see where a program is hiding the tools which should be a few days work. Also think outside the programs. All too often people think every thing in the world is done with one approach/application when in most cases a pipeleine of artists with different tools created a final piece.

[Mylenium] “I also noticed that connections are closed prematurely, resulting in damaged and unusable files. Definitely something fishy going on from my POV.”
I get the same.

You shouldn’t double pulldown. You need to pull back up to 30(29.97)

This can be achieved by redering out a motion vector pass from your 3D app when you render the other passes. This motion vector pass can be used in a plug-in like ReVision Motion Blur. This will apply accurate MB to your 3D layers in the 2D world.

To me it looks like particle systems in 3D. For example the buildings are created as simple polygon shapes, then particles are mapped to the vertexes. Obviously there is a script that randomly assigns an album instance to each particle.
If you get the new ‘mograph’ module for C4D, this can all be done very easily.

Well there should be no color in the first place. You are just painting a soft white brush onto black to create the map. Where r u getting color from?
