No kidding. My mistake. Being a supposed replacement for jpeg, It was my understanding it was always lossy even at 100%. Thanks for the correction.

I had the same question as Andy. In Maya I would use the ‘freeze transformations’ as well. It’s not the same as protection though. It allows you to normalize the state of an object (especially one imported from something else). So that say you fixed where it’s axis is and rotation and set the scale to something reasonable, ‘freeze transformations’ would keep the object exactly how you have it, but the scale will now be 1 and the rotations and positions will be zeroed so where you have it currently set becomes it’s default state.
I miss that function a lot and was wondering what C4D’s equivelent was. Didn’t seem to find it in the manual.

don’t use png because it’s compressed. Use Quicktime Animation codec. But set it to Millions of COlors+ so you retain the alpha channel.
Import this into AE and add whatever FX you want. That’s what AE is for. If you want isolated control then render out of your 3D app using different passes for different elements of the logo. This is how almost all professional logos are done that start in 3D.
So for example the different render passes you could have:
diffuse, specular, dirt or grime, reflection, ambient, occlusion, fog, depth, etc… the list goes on, but these are the most common.
one of the best ways to learn all this is through:

If I didn’t use a 3 button mouse so much (Maye, C4D, shake), I would go back to the beloved pen. I loved it, but not as much as 3 button mousing. Yes I know there are ways to configure keys but it’s not the same.

use a mask or track matte.
A mask only allows the RGB to be seen whithin it (At default settngs at least).
A track matte will allow you to use the alpha (Transparency) or luma (from the RGB) from another layer as it’s own alpha.
So for example, if you made the text ‘Trug” on one layer. Then just washed another layer with colors and whatever, you could use the alpha from the Text layer to isolate where the colors show. So you would have an image with your wash of color only whithin the word ‘Trug’.

Yeah, don’t use DV codec ever if you don’t have to. Use a lossless codec like Animation(RGB) or Blackmagic(YUV).
As far as your flicker. Check the archives. This is asked every week or so. There should be a lot of resposes from past threads.

The math is easy, but I’m having a hard time understanding which is which. Technically speaking what are you defining “alpha merged pic” as? Meaning you multiplied the alpha with the RGB channels of itself? Are you saying you multiplied the alpha of two different pictures?
Result pic = PicA multiplied with (which alpha?) plus PicB multiplied with the reverse of (Which alpha?)
Is that what you mean by the -1 being reverse? Or are you just trying to darken the image by a value of 1?

I think you are looking for the equivelent of Shake’s ‘colorX’ node. Which basically let’s you do whatever math expression you wish on the channels. As far as plug-ins I think the closest thing is using Channel>Arithmetic, but it only gives you one simple option.
I’d look into expressions as they may be the only way you will get most control out of the channels.
