I used to be agaisn’t the tablet scene. But then was forced to roto about a 100 shots for my company. about after the 1st shot i switched over to a tablet and found it alot more comfortable.
So it really depends on what you’re doing. If you’re doing repetitive work then def get one. If not…just regular AE stuff then don’t, or do.
I switch back and forth constantly.

Repetitive work is the key here, ie. masks, path creation, wrist survival :>P, etc. I love using mine in Afx, PS and Ill, as well as in 3ds Max. It is very comfortable and durable. My tablet is an older Intuos 9×12 (graphite, light grey) so there is some serious real estate being taken by this bad boy (full size – approx 18×14 in., tablet area 9×12). However with my dual LCD’s it’s not to bad, but back in the day when I had CRT’s it was really a drag. The only thing that I regret and if I had the need for another or to trade this one in, I would actually step down to the 6×8 (or 9 – whatever it is now).

I love the intuos brand, very reliable.

I’d never be a rock star in a band
If I kept abusing my right hand
Not what you think, may I add
Just working with a mouse made me feel bad
Hand twitches, itches , oh god no stictches
And roto jobs sure are b****es
Wacom changed the world to good
I even use it to garble my food
And now I can even bang the drum
And not worry about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome !
So Grab an Intous Pad and a stick
and you’ll never understand how you worked holding a brick !

    cheers

And if you ever get to see someone use a Cintiq, you’ll readjust your yearly budget to get one for yourself. Drawing on a monitor surface…

Alas, poor me, I’m stuck using my graphire. Someday… (kicks can…)

Seriously, I’m addicted to my tablet. I do all my work in it now. My mouse is for Half-Life and Simcity…

When you get both and get in a rhythm of working with both, it’s like Full Metal Jacket.

“This one’s for working, this is for fun”

Pardon the bad pun, but it’s a good product and I heartily recommend one for anyone in our industry.

If I didn’t use a 3 button mouse so much (Maye, C4D, shake), I would go back to the beloved pen. I loved it, but not as much as 3 button mousing. Yes I know there are ways to configure keys but it’s not the same.

I have both an Graphire A5 and Intous A4 .
The A5 is OK (spare the wobbly feel if you’re used to working on the Intous)

    BUT I don’t know how the A5 handles 2 monitors .

    cheers
