July 11, 2005 at 12:36 pmIf you’ve already created your animation, I’d import it and polish it in AE.
Im not sure what options you have with Swift 3d, but try exporting it as an uncompressed AVI, or a “animation”x100% Quicktime. Make sure the frame size matches the size of the comp your working with in AE. At witch point you can add any number of glows, halos, motion blurs, etc
If this is something you have to do on a regular basis, you may want to have a look at this plugin:

July 11, 2005 at 12:53 pmHI! thanks for the reply! I have read about that plug-in in various posts, i might consider it…
I am going to try exporting it as you say…but i have a doubt. I have been playing about with these ayato tutorials etc…trapcode shine adn all of those. Now if i import the animation, a avi or mov say….will i still be able to apply the fx -

July 11, 2005 at 1:19 pmSee if you can export your animation from Swift 3d with an alpha channel, I use the Huffy YUV codec to do this. Or you can use Quicktime, export as PNG 100% quality with alpha.
Import your footage into AE and set the clips transparency to “premultiplied”.
With the alpha channel, you shouldn’t have any problem applying Trapcode’s “Shine” to the animation.

July 12, 2005 at 12:41 amdon’t use png because it’s compressed. Use Quicktime Animation codec. But set it to Millions of COlors+ so you retain the alpha channel.
Import this into AE and add whatever FX you want. That’s what AE is for. If you want isolated control then render out of your 3D app using different passes for different elements of the logo. This is how almost all professional logos are done that start in 3D.
So for example the different render passes you could have:
diffuse, specular, dirt or grime, reflection, ambient, occlusion, fog, depth, etc… the list goes on, but these are the most common.
one of the best ways to learn all this is through:

July 12, 2005 at 2:50 amJust a friendly FYI 🙂
PNG 100% is lossless, and depending on the type of vid, can offer a better compression ratio than Animation at 100%, particularly when dealing with logos/titles etc.

July 12, 2005 at 10:30 amNo kidding. My mistake. Being a supposed replacement for jpeg, It was my understanding it was always lossy even at 100%. Thanks for the correction.
