I like Cineform a lot as a codec. But didn’t use it because it rendered so slow out of old Premiere & old DaVinci. Now that Cineform has good fast support in Premiere, maybe I will test it again in the latest Resolve, see if the Resolve renders are any better in v11.

Adobe dynamic link is not supported in XML. The latest Premiere project manager supports transcode/render of all dynamic link material to Quicktime if you don’t want to manually render-out/cut-in each AE Dynamic link.

I didn’t end up running all those test to nail down how Adobe interacts with the XMP IDs but we did move forward with…
Rule 1 import every piece of media into an adobe app before it is duplicated or backed up, so there’s no chance of the same file getting multiple Id numbers assigned.
Optional: turn off the I’d assign on export… But I find that difficult when dealing with many computers and freelancers. Plus the feature is pretty sweet when it works.
It’s a moot point because a Premiere bug eventually forced the entire project over to FCP7 anyways. Adobe was aware of the issue so maybe out bug won’t resurface for others in the new version?

Locking the files’ a good idea, but rewinding to the XMP.

You’re putting me down a good path here, so I took a PPro project from my Ass.Editor; import with the media offline… YES, the clip markers are in the PPro project file. Check that out. But then I relink the media to source file on my edit system and the clip markers disappear!?!

So maybe I’m getting multiple copies of the media with different Premiere assigned unique identifying numbers in the XMP? So once I relink to a duplicated file (that is not technically duplicate because the Premiere generated XMP ID’s don’t match across the two files from two systems) then the app syncs them & goes with the clip with no markers, thus deleting her markers. Something for me to test tomorrow.

Part of my test should be doing the same process with the original media that never got a Premiere import thus not yet having received an XMP ID.

Sequence markers are in the PP Project. Clip Markers are in the XMP attached to the media files, as far as I’ve been able to confirm. Unless I’m wrong in which case maybe my system is doing something bad in the sync between XMP data and the project. (Yes, I back up my project file)

There’s a few apps that would let you use your second laptop as a second monitor. Air Display is one of them. It’s similar to screen sharing, you might get a performance decrease since computer #1 will be serving a video stream to your second computer.

Confirmed. CalDigit enclosures only work with CalDigit controller cards.

Thanks for the clarification. Ignoring the Ivy bridge mobo, I’m guessing the only benefit left to the Rampage IV Extreme is that it can take a Decklink Extreme 3d instead of relying on a Blackmagic USB3.0 SDI card? Maybe that is not worthwhile straying from the approved config. And now I understand why there is no Cubix option for the P9X79 PRO, as the 40 lanes would bottleneck.

But also, what about this equation, would Resolve “do better” with:
    GUI in a 16x + GPU in a 16x (Asus P9X79 PRO)
    or
    GUI in a 16x + GPU in a 8x + GPU in a 8x (ASUS Rampage IV Extreme)

Here’s a chart. The Displayport HDLinkPro has several advantages over the AJAs:

And you do need a converter box with Displayport to take advantage of the Dreamcolor engine.

I have no 590/690 experience but these cards are essentially two GPUs linked through SLI, and SLI is not supported by Resolve.
