    First off, hi everyone!

I’m a media arts student looking to build a system for Resolve Lite, well, not just Resolve Lite. I’m also looking into Adobe Creative Suite and Media Composer Academic (perhaps).

So I’ve been reading a lot for this and I want to clear a few questions in my head before I go into building my system.

    1. Resolve apparently requires two GPU’s, one for CUDA, and one for GUI. I wonder how the performance gets affected if only a GUI card is there. I’m not going to be doing anything with very large resolutions, 1080p will be as big as it gets.

    2. Can one dual GPU card like a 590 be used for both the GUI and CUDA processing?

My purchases will be affected by how things are with the CPU’s in resolve.

    Thanks!

It used to be in many cases resolve wouldn’t even run on a system unless it had a dedicated gpu. Particularly on the windows side. Now with v9 this is greatly improved. So you can get away with a single card given reduced performance.

As to the 590. It would probably be more power and less performance than a single 580. It’s look at the 680 4gb or 570 2.5gb if the 580 is cost prohibitive.

    Thanks, man.

So how bad of a performance hit are we talking here when it comes to 1080p?

I have no 590/690 experience but these cards are essentially two GPUs linked through SLI, and SLI is not supported by Resolve.
