Hey John,
Been a while!
Did you look at the tutorial for the Boris plugs? At three times the price of Nattress and five times the work, I don’t think so. You have to apply FIVE filters and go through a tedious process with Boris for the same results Graeme gives us with one filter.
While I think Boris is great for a lot of things, this AIN’T one of them.

SoundSoap is fantastic, now available as a stand alone app. You must watch their tutorial to really understand how to fine tune it, I use it at least once a week and it has saved the day every time. You just need 2 seconds of clear noise and it works great.

Shane is correct, however, Sony’s Luma series has an entry level HD monitor for about $1200 US, but that’s about the cheapest. You’d still need an MXO to feed a component signal to it, so either way it’s over 2 grand. Like he says, HD ain’t cheap.

I’m not a layer, but I do have an idea about this. Technically, what you are doing is called “work for hire.” Under the copyright ruling of 1968, work for hire is completely the property of whoever hires you. The agency owns everything. But, if you negotiate up front, you may get some extra compensation as described in this thread, but you must do it first and get it in writing.

If your friend thinks there’s an advantage, ANY advantage, to do any kind of manipulation with the HDV codec, then I have a bridge to sell him. He’s off his rocker or exceedingly ill-informed.
