    Hi Mac world

Would appreciate some mac wisdom for a noob. I have a keen interest in Mac recently converted from PC. I have invested this year in Mac operating system and editing. I have brought a Sony XDCAM EX1 HD, upgraded my Mac Book Pro to 4gb and installed FCS2 now I looking at my budget and its not looking to good but can squeeze in a much needed HD external monitor (24inch)for editing. I dont know what brands for my bugdet of $600 NZD I can buy one and what to buy for my mac. I am looking on TradeME and they have many HD monitors and are good bargains for my bugdet.

Can someone please give their MacWisdom and expert knowledge?

    Much Appreciated

Professional HD monitors cannot be had for under $2400 US. HDTVs can, but not professional monitors. Then you need to get the proper signal TO that monitor. And with a MacBook Pro, you only have three options: AJA I/O HD, Matrox MXO and Matrox MXO 2. The MXO is the cheapest at $995 US…AJA I/O HD is about $3400US.

The cheapest solution is the MXO and Apple Cinema Display…as I review here on the Cow. Click on my head at the top to get to the link.

    HD is expensive…sorry to say.

Shane is correct, however, Sony’s Luma series has an entry level HD monitor for about $1200 US, but that’s about the cheapest. You’d still need an MXO to feed a component signal to it, so either way it’s over 2 grand. Like he says, HD ain’t cheap.

    Have a wonderful day.

OK…that seems like a decent HDTV. But that is what it is…and HDTV…not good for color grading. And how will you get the signal to the TV? Need an HD capture card…
