    Marsha,

Try changing the transfer mode (under modify, composit mode) to lighten or add, or use the color key filter and select the black to key.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Nate,

Assuming you mean to edit with FCP 6.0.4, your laptop at least will handle it, not sure about your iMac.

You should put 4 gigs RAM in the laptop. You will be able to capture to ProRes which is much better to edit with than HDV which is really poor to edit with. There is a boatload of info on this on the FCP forum.

    Have a wonderful day.

[Michael Gissing] “after looking at HD for weeks, SD looks shabby.”

One of the main reasons why I use the workflow I outlined.

When you send to Motion from your timeline, you don’t have to mess with any settings.

For an SD DVD from an HD movie, put it in Compressor, and select 90 minute best quality.

    Have a wonderful day.

  • Anna,

I get better quality encodes out of Episode than Compressor. Others swear by Bit Vice.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Pete,

You got a lot of good advice here, but look in the AE tutorials here on the Cow as well. Aahron Rabinowitz has a few on old TV effects, including a great one for turn on, turn off the set.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Well,

Really hard to judge on a computer monitor, you need to see the downconversion by WHATEVER method on a good NTSC monitor.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Christoph,

At some point, you’re gonna have to render everything to SD, so in my mind it makes no difference. I have really happy clients using this method.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Greg,

I feel your pain. My first major storage solution was a Huge Media vault. It worked well, but I had to ship it back for failing drives twice. Now it’s a doorstop. It only lasted two years.

Regarding Davids advice, go with it. He and I also like the Firmtek units, but the CalDigit is probably best.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Christoph,

Regarding your original query, the best titles come from vector based tools, such as Boris Title 3d. Plus all the other stuff I mentioned.

    Have a wonderful day.
