There’s a page peel effect in FCP’s transitions and several 3rd party versions. Don’t know where to send you though, sorry…

The garbage matte should work fine. Once you are keyed you can move or size yourself anywhere.

With due respect, I edit 1080 ProRes on my 2 gig G5 all the time. It does NOT choke on playback. It may be your drives are not up to handeling 1080 footage, but the G5 has no problem with it at all.

Ron,
How in the heck did you know about Mahavishnu?

Note that some cameras have component out, so you won’t need a deck. With some, you can still control the camera via FireWire at the same time.

Tomasso,
I only use Animation if I need an alpha channel. Otherwise, I always use ProRes. Banding can be minimized by making your comps 16 bit, but also a tiny bit of noise will fix it.

M.D.,
I don’t think there’s an answer for this in my tutorial, but I think it’s a limitation of how the HDV-ProRes caption window works. It does not handle batches, it is a capture now function at this point in time. It may be able to do this in future versions, but for now it’s kinda primitive.

We just had the exact same request, we bought a little app called Captionate (PC – http://www.captionate.com) that is helping us out.
We had to export a flash file (flv) of our movie and combine that with the xml file provided for us by our Closed Caption house. We then were able to marry the two with Captionate (PC only, unfortunately). The program was very intuitive and easy to import/export. Costs $60.
Here’s the issue we are just now getting so. Through captionate you can export a .flv, data .flv or data .xml. I just sent them over to the webmaster to see if he can use them as is. If that doesn’t work we will need to provide him with a “skin” or an embedded player that will allow the user to toggle the Closed Captions on an off.
If you DO need to export with a skin, the only way I am aware of so far to do that is through Adobe Flash (V. 8 or above). The process sounds simple enough to do without knowing Action script. You can find FREE skins and a tutorial on how to do that here:
https://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/video_captionate.html
That page also has a short video on captionate and so on. Hope that helps!
