I’m sorry, but you are in some strange world, Macs don’t have model years like cars, and you pointed to the problem yourself with maintenance being done. This is the second time I have tried to help you and you just throw it back into my face. Good luck to you, you won’t hear from me again.

This has been asked a hundred times on this forum. So you should search the archives.

The less expensive ones I can’t live without are Eureka!, Joe’s Filters, Nattress Big Box of Tricks, Nattress G film and Telly’s, Stibs are good too.

The expensive ones are Boris Continuum Complete. Go from there.

Change your compressor to ProRes and re render. Working in HDV is horses__t.

Better to capture to ProRes to begin with.

HDV is lousy to edit in and worthless to archive in. Not a bad acquisition format, but a lot of us bail on the format by capturing to ProRes and/or/rendering in ProRes, and storing as digital files or laying back to a decent HD tape format.

Huh? What are you trying to capture from? What HD format did you shoot?

Blaming your troubles on the date your Mac was built is absurd. There’s something on your end going on here.

I capture HDV to ProRes on a “pre 2005 G5” via FireWire almost daily, never a problem.

So perhaps if you can answer some of my questions it would help.

For what it’s worth, if you need to see NTSC or PAL on a decent production monitor (not computer) the Sony 2030 Luma is great for the price. Around 1200 bucks, I have been using one for about 6 months and it’s worked out great. Tough to calibrate, but once you get it it’s just fine.

The Dell screens are very good. I have several Samsung screens which I love. And they are about the same price as the Dells.

You should not be getting dropped frames with that setup. Time to trash prefs, repair permissions and restart.

Kevin,

Capturing HDV via FireWire to ProRes is still in it’s infancy, does not have all the controls or batch capture that other format captures have. So you are probably best off going with your SDI option.
