What I do is change the compressor to ProRes or 8bit uncompressed, and go into the render settings and set it to render in high precision YUV and set the motion setting to best. This will need rendering but it will look as good as it possible can.

I have a two drawer Firmtec enclosure with 1 TB at RAID 0 which is really fast and works very well. I would strongly suggest something like this, and I would not partition it. Get a cheaper smaller FW drive if you want a clone or Timemachine backup, as with the Firmteck card you will still have a FW port for your backups. Also, suggest 4 gigs RAM.

That much scaling would suck. Much better off using the advanced format conversions in Compressor or Instant HD, or using a Kona 3.

That would be a muxed m2v and Compressor doesn’t do these I don’t think. You need Episode Pro for that.

Yes a TV is better than no monitor. Try Boris Title Crawl, and type in returns at the end to get it to go off screen. Also do what the other guys said about changing your compressor to 8bit or ProRes. You won’t be able to see it in real time on your monitor through FireWire so this is the last thing you should do.

That is the range check and it means everything is okay. You turn it off in the view menu. I alwaya leave it on in the canvas.

Timecode reader allows you to type in a name I believe.

Alan,

It may be that you click on something else than just the capture window while capturing, like the Browser say, this will cause this behavior. When capturing, don’t touch anything.

Why H264?
That is a delivery, not an editing codec.
