Although I have not done your test with a split screen, or ingested HDV via SDI, from everything I have read here and elsewhere, find it hard to believe there could be any quality difference at all between SDI and FireWire ingest. How can that be?

I can’t get iTunes to export an mp3, no luck. So this little app was a big help. VERY quick too.

FieldsKit is exactly what you want, it’s as good as or better than any other. Plus it works in FCP and AE. Fantastic control.

What I like about these devices most is that they are external, and they would be great with notebooks, so, portability, flexibility, convenience is what I’d be buying if I went with one of these.
What I’d like to see though, is a few different versions with specialized uses, as AJA did with the original iOs. Seems it would negate a lot of unneeded features for some of us and make for some more affordable products.

The only exceptions to the above advice are when you have graphics, keying, color correction and filters in your show, in which case, I would change my compressor to 8 or 10 bit, render and save as a movie. But I’d still avoid QT conversion in all of this.

What format is your original material, and what format is your sequence? You are always best off not changing formats, assuming of course you start out with something uncompressed, and render using QuickTime, not QT conversion. You want as few render hits as possible.

Oh, and here’s the link, this was an H264 movie, and they converted it and got it up in about 10 minutes!

FYI Vimeo is using Flash, and they’re doing nice conversions.

There is no mention I could see on whether this can handle ProRes, it says it’s DVCPro HD. Anyone know about this?
