Excellent! Thanks again.

Yeah, I saw the Read Me- thought it meant that I could not use the Kona 3 for audio playback. Just couldn’t believe that it was true- once again tripped up by my assumptions.
Thanks again. Hope you are right about CS6. Maybe Adobe will also allow us to have more than one project open at a time.

Thank you! Completely counterintuitive and worked like a charm.

The footage was Canon 5dMkll media that had already been converted to ProRes. My system is an 8 core Xeon with 16 gigs of RAM, nVidia 285 and 28tb of fiberchannel storage on a pair of Rorke Galaxy level 5 RAIDS.
Further testing is leading me to believe that part of the problem is related to footage disappearing. This footage was linked to the events folder with aliases rather than actually being in the folder. This is the result of not checking the “copy files to Final Cut Events folder” box in the import dialog. I opened the folder in the Events folder that had contained the aliases to the original media- the aliases were gone. This is discouraging as I have a lot of FCP7 media that I wanted to leave in place and just link to.
The original footage did not disappear. The Rorke raids are very reliable- I have not lost a file on them in 5 years, even when 1 of the drives died (the RAID just rebuilt automatically).
My FCPX project folder is also on one of the RAID arrays. I did this because FCPX puts all of the render files in the project folder. I wish that there was a way around this- if my project folder were on my boot drive I might have been able to restore my project from a time machine backup.

I see in your post both FCP6 and FCP7. Which are you using? It may be that the plugin does not work in 6.
BTW, I have playing with DSLR video in FCPX. As controversial as that program may be, the way it handles DSLR footage is amazing.

Perhaps Wes Plate can come up with software to convert projects from 7 to X. A good number of us would buy it!

It is off- tried it both ways. Let me know if you think of anything else.
Thanks!

If you are like me and have not used the Log & Transfer window much, be sure to set the import preferences to the format you really want. On first use it defaults to 444.

I bought the full Redrock Cinema bundle for my EOS7. It is a great value but has a few issues. First of all, the assembly instructions are on Vimeo, not printed. It’s nice but printed instructions can be handier. Second, the MicroArm broke after a couple of weeks of use and the side doors on the matte box kept falling off. Fortunately Redrock has excellent customer service- fixed them without issue. They also seem very interested in customer feedback for improving their products. The matte box uses 4×5.65″ filters, which are less common than the 4×4 variety, although you can use masks to enable the use of 4×4’s. Finally, the carbon fiber support design is strong and light but unbalanced and obstructs the camera’s hatches and controls. I have been steadily removing parts so I can get to the camera more easily. Fortunately it is very easy (and kinda fun) to modify. Redrock also makes a ton of accessories and adapters to customize your rig almost any way you want.
I would recommend calling them to discuss your needs before placing an order- they’re good folks.
