CS5 premiere playback problem on brand new 17″ MBP
am running a brand new 17″ mac book pro with CS5 premiere and I’m getting no playback – I can scrub the timeline, render all fine, but hitting space plays for about 10-20 frames and stops WTF??!?
have tried with old comps, new comps, heavily layered and jsut a single clip and I cannot get premiere to playback beyond 1 second
I know about the mercury engine, but have seen youtube clips and posts stating that it actually improves performance on laptops
Anyone have an answer?!

ive had a nightmare on a quad core pc with cs5 and had to go back to an older version that performs better. I updated my gfx card drivers and played around with the location of cache folders etc but nothing seemed to work, it was just so laggy

I have the same problem with my 8 core tower, yet it plays fine on my 17’MBP. Am buying a video card from the Adobe supported list to see if it helps.

The software MPE will give a bit of boost but not as much as if you have hardware MPE enabled which needs a qualified Nvidia card, also the type of compression used and horsepower of the laptop, problems with laptops is the video GPU usually has a smaller ammount of Cuda cores as compared to a desktop GPU, and the cooling for the mobile GPU is more problematic than running on a desktop where cooling can be added and I don’t know of any mobile GPUs on the approved list

just tried it now on a quad core mac tower and the same problem – so that cancels out it being limited to laptop (although I never believed it to be the case)
never had this problem with CS4…!

ok we finally got it to work.
this is bizaare-o
our IT logged me out, then logged in as Admin, opened the program and the timeline worked fine. logged out, I logged back in and ran the program – no playback issues!
we still have no idea how or why this worked except perhaps some kind of reset of the cache files??

It would help to describe the footage you are trying to edit and what your project settings are, just saying I’m editing something that doesn’t work doen’t cut it, very few psychics here most are off staring at goats.
