[Bob Zelin] “Does it really “burn” on the LCD display? “

Yes, I have permanent burns on my 23″ and 30″ Apple Cinema Displays from the Final Cut Pro interface.

I just installed my UltraScope into a Gateway DX-4300. The Gateway sells for $750 with 8 gigs of RAM and a Radeon HD4650 pre-installed. My leftover Apple 23″ Cinema display jitters when using the mouse with other programs but is rock solid when running UltraScope- which is the whole point. I didn’t buy the computer for playing games- I bought it to run amazing scopes at a fraction of what it would have cost to buy hardware scopes.

If someone needed to buy a computer for UltraScope and didn’t want to install a different video card this one works.

This is the kind of 1920×1080 monitor that I am seeing:

On a different note, I was able to borrow an Apple 23″ Cinema display. It is 1929×1200 but it jitters vertically whenever I move the mouse. I presume you don’t have this issue, Bob?

I am able to find several 24″ monitors locally but they are 1920×1080 instead of 1920×1200. Does anyone know if that is OK? (Blackmagic specifies 1920×1200 so I have my doubts). I can always order one to spec but I like to buy locally when I can.

Beware some permissions errors that have cropped up in 10.5.8. If you don’t need it, don’t install it.

You are correct about the permissions error problem. The current consensus is that the combo update should be applied twice before repairing permissions. This still doesn’t solve all of my issues so I will restore the previous version from my backup.

Spoke too soon- playback is OK but OSX is still locking up.

It looks like my LaCie eSATA array or card does not work well under 10.5.8. I changed to my fiberchannel array and the FCP issues have disappeared.

  • Walter- what do you use to get the mouse scroll wheel functionality with the tablet (I presume you are using the pen).

Elgato Turbo is not any faster than normal H.264 export on an octo. Be aware also that Elgato only works with specific presets- it does not accelerate custom frame sizing in Compressor. I do use Elgato to accelerate rendering on an older computer that I offload some jobs to.
