Bummer! My customers really liked that feature. Just another reason to hang on to the old Cinewave a little longer…

If you are having problems with Boris RED the problem might be corrupt fonts. I had exactly that problem- for some reason the bad fonts did not show up until after the FCP5 upgrade. I used Font Doctor- took a while and had to re-run it several times but now Boris is happy.

Yep, Apple’s online store now lists a 1-2 day shipping date instead of 4-6 weeks. I presume they will make an announcement sometime today.

Cool! Do you have any updated info on when Extreme and Studio will ship? BTW, what decision was made regarding scaling standard def video on the DVI output?

The standard offset for Cinewave is 0.5. Also, did you check to make sure that no one had changed the decks DF/NDF setting so that it no longer matches your timeline?

Hi Luke
[Post Office Video] “3) Does the DVI output scale images so I can see SD video full screen on an LCD monitor- or will it be tiny?”
(Luke) That is still up for debate. On HDLink, we offer 1x and 2x display of SD when using an LCD monitor with an adequate resolution for dislaying 2x. That’s nice because it’s pixel for pixel and SD displays well at 2x on a 23″ 1920 x 1200 display.
The DVI-D output of the Multibridge Studio can support much bigger monitors including the Apple Cinema HD 30″ display so we’re thinking of providing scaling so you can display SD using pretty much all of the screen. Do you think that 2x scaling is still important or is it just important to scale up the SD image to fill the whole LCD display?Man, that is a tough one, especially with the 30″. If it were just me I’d stick with the 2x for accuracy. Unfortunately, I have to deal with customers (often with bad breath) looking over my shoulder saying either “why is it small” with the 2x or “why do the monitors look different” with the full scaling. Would it be too much to ask for both? For what it’s worth, the scaling output of the AJA SDI-DVI converter looks good and is quite usable.
Please keep me on the list for the shipping date of Multibridge Studio- I think it is both more flexible and more tidy than the K2/IO solution that AJA is pushing. I also prefer a mostly external box to avoid the heat issues with G5’s.
Thanks,
Chris

Just a speed bump. I will wait till they build one with PCIexpress- seems like GPU’s are becoming as important as CPU’s!

Hi Luke-
I wish I remembered the guy’s name. He was probably in his late 40’s, black ponytail, BM shirt. He was also at the FCP event at the Stardust on Wednesday night. I asked him if BM would support Apple 8 or 10 bit combined with DV and the Animation codec with alpha in real time the way Cinewave does and he said no- that was Apple’s job.
BTW- do you have any plans to have Studio do an upconvert from NTSC to HD? That is the one advantage Kona2 seems to have but I would prefer the tidy setup that Studio provides.
Thank you,
Chris

I talked to one of BM’s engineers at NAB and he said that their products will not add mixed formats in the timeline in FCP and they have no plans to do so. I spoke to several Apple demonstrators who said that FCP5 will not do this either, even with Dynamic RT. It will sort of do a very crunchy preview of overlaid video with alpha and might do a preview of mixed formats on the same track, but they were not allowed to try this to see if it would work. Apple keeps their presenters on a very short leash.
