Check out the Teranex Mini. It is available in a variety of configurations at a much lower price point than their previous products.

December 7, 2005 at 8:48 pm in reply to: Apple acknowledges 720p capture bug (subclips) in FCP 5The reason we want mixed formats in the timeline is that it is a mixed format world. I get stuff in all the time on betacam, DV, DVcam, HDV tapes etc. and directly in animation w-alpha, image sequences, Windows Media & AVI formats. I don’t want to convert digital to analog to digital just to get the same format, I love being able to pan & scan HD in an SD timeline, and I will never tell my customers that I cannot use some video because it is in the wrong format. The varieties of video keep increasing, especially in the Web and portable device areas. I want to accomodate all the business I can, at the best quality, least hassle, least time. That is why I want mixed formats real time in the timeline.

Just for yuks I did a save to disk and noticed that the file had .txt added after .mp4. After I removed the .txt extension the movie played fine… well, other than seeing that the singer keeps looking at a sheet for lyrics- bad memory? 😉

The big advantage is speed. I work with uncompressed betacam footage, DV via firewire and animations with alpha and it all mixes & plays in real time in a Cinewave timeline without conversion, rendering or 3rd party programs. My customers really appreciate this.

I am running the Beta for DV keyboard as well. The previous beta had a serious memory leak- haven’t seen it for certain in the previous version but I am seeing memory become inactive more than usual. The gomon.out file seems more related to the Activity Monitor utility at this point as it updates whenever I use it.

Whoops- spoke too soon. After heavy use FCP is crashing when opening Boris RED titles even when using standard window layouts. If you have any more ideas I’d be happy to hear them.

Wow! You are absoulutely correct. This should have occured to me as my window layout kept reverting to a stock layout after crashes. I will but Boris to see if they will fix this soon. Thanks for the help!

There are vastly easier ways to do this. Combustion, Commotion and the Silhouette plugin for Final Cut are sso much easier to roto in…

I have the same problem. It looks like the new versions plug into FCP differently- more the way Boris RED does. If you are using a video card like Cinewave you may also notice that the text is positioned differently on the Boris window, the FCP windows, and on actual video output. Not fun- wish I had an answer.
